At Society, Abby tells Devon that Lucy has already put Dom to bed so they can have a drink. Devon is excited about his school with Neil’s name on it. Abby suggests that things are moving a little quickly, but Devon isn’t bothered.
Abby can’t shake her concerns about him leaving Winters and his music label. Devon doesn’t understand where this is coming from… this is change for the better! Abby tears up, crying that she thought their marriage was finished. He reassures her and apologizes.
Lily Supports Nate
At Lily’s place, she tries to wrap her mind around Devon leaving Winters and Nate wanting to return to medicine. Nate assures her he won’t leave Winters. “I won’t do that to you.” Lily knows he would have left if not for Devon’s announcement. Nate admits that Malcolm’s crisis reignited his passion.
Lily insists that he go back. Nate counters by asking her if she’ll return to Chancellor. She’s fine with Cane running it and she’s happy at Winters. Getting back to Nate’s dreams, he admits that he wants to be a surgeon again. Stephanie found a specialist who may be able to repair his tendons. Lily insists that he take this opportunity.
Jabbing Jack
At the Club, Jack and Diane run into Cane. Jack jabs at him for taking a job from his ex-wife. When the mighty fall, they fall hard. Cane drops the news that he hired Billy, and Jack asks if it’s a bad joke… he promised he was finished obsessing over it. Cane reveals that Billy is now down another rabbit hole, obsessed with a secret.
Marie’s Medical Crisis
In the seedy motel room, Nick has sex with Marie, the junky from next door. Afterward, they doze until Nick gets up and realization starts to dawn.
As he dresses, he writes her a note, hoping that Marie finds a way out of this life, and leaves it on the nightstand beside her. Saying her name, he can’t wake her and panics when he can’t feel a pulse. Shaking her and performing CPR, he finally brings her around.
Marie wishes Nick had let her die. He argues with her about calling the paramedics. She cries that if he does that, she’ll have to deal with her husband, and everyone will know how far she’s fallen. Nick can’t leave her in this situation and makes a call.
Diane’s Mood Swing
At Society, Abby’s mood has turned around, and she’s smooching with Devon when Jack and Diane wander in and greet them. Abby tells them their drinks are on the house and then goes right back to kissing Devon.
At their table, Diane and Jack go over Billy’s new obsession at Chancellor. Diane notes that he hasn’t been around to visit Jack and believes Cane that he’s deep in the weeds again. Jack shifts gears to worrying about Nick. Diane realizes he knows because his best friend Nikki told him. “Why am I not surprised?” she exclaims, shaking her head.
Jack assures Diane that she’s his best friend and explains that Nikki asked her to be Nick’s sponsor. Diane admits that Nikki is a sensitive subject for her. Jack tells her she’s back with Victor after her latest medical challenge. Diane scoffs that the woman is a fool; Victor is a monster! Jack doesn’t want to discuss them anymore.
At the bar, Devon tells Abby he’s sure something is going on with Nate, who didn’t have much of an opinion about him leaving Winters and wants him to come by. When he gets there, Nate explains that his news collided with his own. He wants to return to medicine… as a surgeon, and it may be possible.
Devon apologizes for his role in his injury, and Nate assures him that he forgave him long ago. He tells Devon that Lily is happy for both of them and seemed happy about running Winters on her own.
The Final Scenes
At the Club, Lily meets up with Cane for a drink, and he asks why she seems so happy. Once he’s been filled in on Devon and Nate’s news, he marvels at how calm she seems about it. Lily admits it will be strange and she’ll miss them. Cane assures her that if she wants to take over Chancellor again, he’ll gladly step aside for her.
Lily seems amused by Cane’s grand gesture and explains that she’s going to stay at Winters. Cane offers a toast to new adventures, and they drink.
At Nate’s place, Devon assures his cousin that he wants this to happen for him so badly that he’ll fly out the specialist and his team. They marvel at the changes ahead. Devon knows they’re ready for it… they’re the Winters family. They embrace.
At Society, Diane feels terrible about Nick. Jack hopes they find him and he gets back to rehab… but it’s a long road. One he’s been on. It’s all about one choice… do you get off the stuff or die? He hopes Nick makes the right choice.
At the seedy motel, Nick watches the paramedics take Marie away and then retreats to the bed and cries.
After some time, Nick grabs his phone and calls Sharon for help. He’s down bad and needs her to come and get him.
