At Crimson Lights, Devon tells Lily that college is coming along well. She hasn’t seen him this happy and energized in a long time. He asks how she’s doing running Winters on her own. Lily admits she misses him and Nate, but things are going OK. As for Chancellor, she doesn’t want to talk about it. They should keep their focus on Nate’s surgery.
At Nate’s place, he answers the door for Stephanie and makes her wait while he finishes reading an article in a medical journal. They laugh over their shared nerdiness, and she reassures him that his surgery will be a success and that he’ll be a doctor again… but today, he’s the patient.
Still at Crimson Lights, Devon presses Lily about Chancellor, and she tells him Billy called off the dogs after reconsidering his priorities. Neither of them believes he’ll give it up for good, and Lily explains that Amanda is digging because Cane thinks there may be information in the archives that can help them. Devon says he’s on her side. She challenges him, “Prove it.”
Lily wants Devon to give Holden a chance. That’s what families do. His life has been turned upside-down. Devon remains doubtful about trusting him. Lily reveals that Billy tried to recruit Holden against her, but he refused. Devon gets her to admit that Holden almost joined the Abbott and scoffs. Lily explains that Holden wasn’t sure he was accepted as a member of the family. In the end, he chose family.
Devon agrees to be nicer to Holden just as Stephanie and Nate stroll in. She reveals that they all wanted to get together to wish him well before his surgery. Nate hugs her.
Lily and Devon wish their cousin well, giving Stephanie credit for coming up with the idea to meet up. As they send him off with hugs, Devon points out how Stephanie has been stepping up for Nate. He and Lily exchange a look.
A Literal Jam
In Tahiti, Diane discovers a letter inside an old wine bottle. They discuss how to get it out, and Jack takes the bottle and starts fiddling with it. Diane takes her turn by sticking her finger into the bottle… and gets it stuck.
Jack snickers about Diane not wanting to break the bottle because she’s afraid of breaking a spell and tries using some sunscreen lotion to get it off. He succeeds, but her wedding band winds up inside the bottle. Diane panics, but Jack gets both the ring and the letter out… with positive thinking. He unfolds the note and reads, “Is all love lost?”
Confrontation at the Rehab
At the rehab, Nick struggles through a craving as Marie appears. She says she’s skipping the group meeting, and he remembers that something had been bothering her earlier. “Come on, talk to me,” he urges. She admits she’s scared — her husband is coming today to discuss the divorce. Nick offers to face the bully, but Marie says no. He has demons of his own to deal with.
Nick argues the point, but Marie won’t agree to letting him be a third party in the room with her and Logan. She admits she wants a hit so badly right now that she can’t see straight, but she’s not going to score and let her husband win. Marie is afraid she’ll end up with nothing. Nick won’t let her give up on herself; they’ll beat this together. Just then, Logan walks in.
Nick and Marie jump up, and Logan tells his wife she looks good before introducing himself to Nick, who looks familiar to him. “You’re a Newman, aren’t you?” He goes on about Victor’s son being in rehab even though it’s supposed to be anonymous, then asks to speak with his wife… alone.
Nick leaves, but listens from the next room as Logan taunts Marie and asks if she’s been bad-mouthing him to her boyfriend. She swears she hasn’t; his secret is safe with her. Logan calls her a victim and trash. Grabbing her, he asks if she’s already sleeping with Nick. She denies it, but he grabs her by the face. Marie shoves him, and Nick rushes in.
The Final Scenes
Still at Crimson Lights, Devon assures Lily he’ll try his best with Holden. She teases, “Wow, the new and improved Devon Winters.” Devon just wants to stop arguing. They express their love. Stephanie returns and is hopeful about Nate’s surgery. She got him new shoes for the operating room.
In Tahiti, Diane and Jack contemplate the words on the note in the bottle and reflect on how their love is a miracle. She says they can’t let whoever wrote the note live forever with that heartbreaking question. Jack agrees. “We have to write them back.” They tell the person that love is never lost. They should keep looking until they find it again. Jack and Diane put the paper back in the bottle and kiss.
At the rehab, Marie stammers to Nick that Logan, who is lying motionless on the floor, was about to hit her and she pushed him. She starts panicking about getting out of there before he wakes up. Nick kicks the guy and grunts, “Get up.” He doesn’t. Feeling for a pulse, Nick shoots Marie a horrified look.
Turning to Marie, Nick tells her she needs to get the hell out of there. She gasps, “Is he dead? Did I kill him?!”
