At the outdoor café, Kyle updates Jack that Nick is back in rehab. He knows because he checked in with Victoria. Jack deadpans, “Why am I not surprised?”
Jack admires Kyle for supporting Victoria even though he despises her father. Kyle will always hate him, but he won’t go after him. Jack squints, “Victoria really did get to you.” He tells his son that he’s a far better man than Victor will ever be.
Billy rolls up acting manic and tells Jack there’s something he needs to hear. Kyle gets brought into the loop about Billy working at Chancellor for Cane. Billy, spiraling, starts rambling about a secret inside Chancellor that Jill doesn’t want him to know and then declares that he’s found it.
Billy explains that he’s discovered information in the files from the early days. Chancellor was on the verge of going under, but someone stepped in to save it, and the secret was buried deep. “Guess who played Santa?” Jack groans, “Please don’t tell it’s Victor.” Billy said Santa, not Satan. It was the late, great John Abbott.
Jack gawps, “Dad bailed out Phillip Chancellor?!” Billy explains that Katherine inherited the company from her first husband, Gary Reynolds, and then gave it to her second husband, Phillip. They changed the name to Chancellor Industries before it nearly went bankrupt. The debts were paid off with Abbott money. Katherine and John were friends, but this was a business deal, and Billy has proof.
Billy has documents bearing John’s signature on them… but there was a provision. Phillip and Chancellor had twenty years to repay the debt. If they didn’t, John or his heirs would own Chancellor outright. Only Jill knows about this, and she didn’t want him to find out. She cut him loose and treated him like garbage rather than tell him the truth.
Victor and Nikki Return
At the ranch, Victoria welcomes her parents back. They’ve shortened their trip to Venice because of Nick. Victoria gives them the rundown on her brother’s trip to the motel. Nikki asks, “How bad did it get this time?” Victor feels guilty about asking Nick to join them for their vow renewal. Victoria reassures him.
Nikki wants to go see Nick, but Victor and Victoria discourage her. They offer to take her to a meeting, but she’s not in danger of slipping right now. Victor credits her with showing their son that recovery is possible.
Sharon’s Aftermath
At Crimson Lights, Sharon arrives to Mariah’s waiting arms. She tells her daughter that Nick is back in treatment. Mariah asks how he’s doing. Sharon isn’t sure even he knows how he’s doing.
Sharon flashes back to going to the motel to get Nick in the middle of the night as she fills Mariah in. He was broken, and there was nothing she could do. Tearing up, Sharon says she thinks it hit him that this is a lifelong battle. Mariah learns that Nick got high with a woman the previous night… and things became dark for both of them.
As Sharon cries over the night’s events, Mariah admits it’s a lot to process. She’s glad Nick called her and trusts her, but everyone has their limit. Sharon is only there right now because someone helped her over and over again. It means the world to her to do that for those she loves.
Nick Gets a Surprise
At rehab, Nick shares with his group about his relapse. He left for one night and didn’t want to come back. Instead of returning, he hit up his dealer, had a nightmare, and relapsed with the woman in the room next to him.
Marie walks into the meeting as Nick describes her almost dying. She says, “It sounds like you saved her life.” Nick turns to look at her.
Marie sits beside Nick as he continues talking about leaning on their families, themselves, or strangers and doing the work. She nods, and they exchange a glance. Marie starts sharing. She’s there because the hospital handed her a flyer after a night with bad — and great — moments. She cries about her selfish mistake but gives herself credit for showing up there.
After the others disperse, Marie fills Nick in on what happened at the hospital. A friend brought her clothes, and she came to the meeting. She thanks him for saving her life as they banter about coffee. Nick asks where her head is, and she shrugs, “I’m here… for now.” Nick will take the win.
Victoria’s Panic
Sharon joins the Newmans at the ranch to discuss Nick. Nikki declares that he needs to let go of the shame or it will drag him down. Sharon explains that he seemed lost. Victor asks what happened at the motel. The blonde admits it was ugly. Victoria declares that they’ll help Nick fight. Sharon and Nikki argue that this is a different kind of battle. Panicking, Victoria yells, “Stop!” and insists that all he needs is their support.
Nikki tells Victoria that her dedication is admirable, but Nick has to fight this battle himself. They have to pray that he’ll find the strength within himself.
The Final Scenes
Still at the ranch, Nikki tells Victor that she knows Nick has to do this alone, but she can’t bear it. She’s holding onto the fact that he went back to treatment. Victor reassures her as she says she’s scared. They will let him know they have faith in him. He’s a fighter.
At rehab, Nick asks Marie if she’ll check into the program. She needs a little more time. He warns that things can spin out of control pretty quickly on the outside. She assures him she won’t forget about last night anytime soon. He grunts, “Me either.” They part ways, with him asking if she’ll be back. She teases that he’s obsessed with her and leaves him with a smile.
At the outdoor café, Billy tells Jack and Kyle that there’s no indication that the debt was ever paid off. If this is all true, they own Chancellor Industries.
