No pain, no gain! Tate is walking Aaron through a workout session, promising Aaron free training at the gym when school begins. The school Tate isn’t going to! Aaron isn’t bitter at all. OK, he is, but Tate insists that owning a business is much tougher than college. (Sure… but your “business” has like four customers, three of whom are friends/family.)
Tate is also realizing how difficult things are with Holly. Their relationship has been one drama after another! Aaron shoots that down and simply says they need to have more fun, so they’re going to go find the girls! (Sigh.)
The Teens’ Last Hurrah?
Ari and Holly are doing a little shopping before school starts, but nothing is making Holly feel better after Amy’s visit. And… maybe part of the reason Sophia died was her fault. Ari won’t let her go too far down that path, so instead Holly worries about the Titan drama. Luckily, as Ari builds her up, the fellas arrive — and Aaron pulls Ari away to “the Thing.”
The Thing, it turns out, is setting up some canvas chairs in the park for a barbecue and some fun! The three college kids toast to their last hurrah before school starts, and Tate just looks a little sad.
Rachel’s Growing Up
Brady and Rachel are about to do some back-to-school shopping, too (Did everyone set their alarms for today?), but she isn’t feeling it with mommy gone again. Brady tries telling her that mommy left for her, but it doesn’t help much. Rachel has become a lot wiser since Bayview.
As much as she loves Kristen, that doesn’t mean she has to trust her or be like her. Something bad always happens when she’s around. “Maybe my life is better when she’s not here.” Brady assures a worried Rachel that she isn’t a bad person for saying that, and perhaps some time apart will be good.
Will EJ Give Into Devlin?
Devlin fills EJ in on his golf outing with a drunk George O’Halloran and his loose lips about the Coriseal coverup. EJ insists he knows nothing, but the Chief Water Inspector already paid a visit to Smith Island and discovered an excavation “that looks like it was dug by a frantic golden retriever” that confirms George’s story.
But Devlin isn’t worried about the legal system; he’s simply cleaning up EJ’s mess before more people die. The arsenic could have seeped into the water table, and it might take only one storm to wash it into the Salem River — which all of Salem drinks from. “In summation, Mr. DiMera, the situation is a dumpster fire visible from space.”
Luckily, it’s Devlin St. John to the rescue! He’s extremely excited to play the hero — which is why he hasn’t told anyone what happened. The Coriseal fiasco will cost millions, which the city doesn’t have, and they don’t have the time either. EJ pays to have this fixed, and quickly, or he’s exposed to the world. Devlin pulls out an itemized account of the expenses he’ll be accruing — including some colorfully termed hush money.
Xander Gets Real With Sarah
Sarah walks in on Xander on the phone, arranging the sale of the estate. (And honestly… Maybe they should sell the estate!) They’re sunk, thanks to EJ. He told Maggie, and she’s taking it stoically, but Xander isn’t. He’s beside himself and recoils from Sarah’s attempt to comfort him. He simply doesn’t deserve it! Sarah points out that there’s blame to go around for everyone. If she’d told Xander the truth about Philip sooner, maybe Tony wouldn’t have had the leverage to take DiMera back.
Xander doesn’t disagree. Their trust issues haven’t really been resolved, and until they are… But while they can’t change the past, they can deal with the present. “Hope for a better future.” Sarah can’t imagine anyone else living in the mansion, which is when Xander admits he hasn’t told Brady yet. He suggests the news would be better coming from Sarah, so she leaves to do it.
Will Gabi Give Philip More Money?
Philip is unraveling quickly in the office — literally, judging by his hair and clothes — but he’s texted Gabi to come over because he found a way to save Titan. And it is… a poker game! He hasn’t played in a while, but he’s an excellent player, and he has a game in Monte Carlo ready to go next week.
Gabi isn’t sure this is a good idea. (Same.) The only problem, he says, is a five million dollar buy-in. But he’ll put it on the line to win the top prize. He just, er, needs the buy-in from her. That, Gabi says, is her entire inheritance from Stefan. (Or rather, what’s left of it.) So she isn’t enamored with this plan, despite Philip’s assurances that poker is the one skill he truly has.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Sarah makes her way over to Brady to break the news about Titan and Basic Black. Brady is sad, but at least his kids are finally turning their lives around. Let go of the past, and look to the future! Rachel returns from her room and begs Sarah to come back to school shopping with them. It’s going to be so fun!
Holly and Tate go to toss some frisbee, leaving Aaron to take the plunge and kiss Ari.
EJ sends Rita an “SOS” and she joins them with some tea — which Devlin knows better than to drink. Before he can run off, though, EJ grabs him from behind, while Rita stabs him with a syringe. (Oh no. Does this mean no Rivlin?!)
Gabi doesn’t say “No,” but she has to think about it. Philip promises that if he doesn’t win, he’ll spend the rest of his life paying her back. Xander walks in at the tail end, but Philip won’t let Gabi tell his brother what he’s planning. (Does she not know about his gambling problem?)
