That Didn’t Last Long: General Hospital’s Sonny Is Already Gearing Up for His Next War!

We were worried it was too good to be true. Last week, Sonny decided to leave the mob life behind on General Hospital, but then we saw this week’s spoilers and realized he was already preparing for battle. Then we watched Wednesday’s episode, and we became more concerned than ever that Sonny’s reformation could be extremely short-lived.

You see, Sonny, Drew and Valentin are all going after Sidwell’s assets. Valentin wants Wyndemere back, Sonny wants his piers and the holdings to go legitimate, and Drew? He simply wants to break Sonny and make him suffer. But why?

That’s not completely clear. Sonny certainly had nothing to do with keeping Drew locked up for months! Nor did he have anything to do with shooting the man literally in the back. But Drew told Martin that with Jason gone, he could go after Sonny. And the soon-to-be-former mob boss (fingers crossed) admitted to Ric that he was convinced Drew was pursuing a personal vendetta against him. Whatever the reason, Drew is poised to undermine everything decent Sonny is planning.

It feels like we’re currently balanced on a razor-thin edge, and the slightest breeze could push Sonny one way or another. If Drew’s vendetta becomes too vicious, it could drive Sonny back toward drastic measures from the life he’s trying to leave behind. The same could happen if Valentin simply cuts off Sonny’s path toward building a legitimate business.

We hate to say Sonny needs to win this battle, but it sort of feels like he does. Then again, perhaps this is simply the first test of how committed Sonny is to leaving the mob life behind. Maybe if he loses, it will only launch a business rivalry between him, Drew and Valentin.

If Sonny makes it through this battle without returning to violence, he may truly be in the clear. And the next time he wants to bring someone down, he can turn to “humane,” shockingly legal methods, such as bankrupting them and taking everything they own, instead of having them gunned down in a back alley. But if he doesn’t? If Drew gets too far under his skin?

Sonny could return to the mob life so quickly that our heads will spin. What do you think? Can Sonny really keep his promise to walk away? Will Drew’s vendetta drive him straight back to violence?
