They’ve got the banter, the chemistry, and the history… Young & Restless’ Lily and Cane have been firing on all cylinders since they finally found a way to get on the same page, but can it last? We’re about to find out.
Trouble is ahead for exes Lily and Cane, who, having just hit the sheets, are about to find themselves on opposite sides of a major issue. Lily, as we all know, put her former hubby in charge of Chancellor, but can she remain as “hands off” as she led him (and herself) to believe she would?
As Young & Restless fans know well, Chancellor is beloved by Lily, who established herself as a leader and innovator at the company after Jill placed her in charge alongside her son. She was the steady hand through several transitions, but a clash with a power-hungry Billy brought her tenure to an abrupt end… and destroyed any trust between them.
Fast-forward to Lily finally getting Chancellor back and placing it in Cane’s hands to run, and Ashby hiring none other than… step-brother, Billy. Lily objected to the idea, but eventually chose to trust Ashby’s judgment in the matter, albeit reluctantly. Cane made the offer to Billy, who almost instantly made him regret it.
Why? Billy’s become obsessed with the idea that there’s a deep, dark secret buried in Chancellor’s history that will somehow explain Jill’s reluctance to have her son involved in the business. Like she needs another reason besides his past behavior. Anyway, despite Cane warning that he might let the Abbott go over the troubling hyper-fixation, Billy dug in. Because, of course he did.
At this point, Lily knows nothing about Billy’s latest spiral, but we suspect she’s about to learn and will be none too pleased. Indeed, Young & Restless spoilers preview that Billy will come between Lily and Cane by week’s end.
If our hunch is right, Cane’s going to tell Lily about Billy’s insistence that there’s a shady secret hidden within Chancellor’s dusty old files and that he already thinks he’s found a clue: Chancellor was bailed out by someone with big money many moons ago. Lily will quickly figure out that Billy, as is typical, is flirting with disaster.
Lily, we’re guessing, will not want Billy to continue digging in case he uncovers something that negatively affects the company, or that proves someone else has a claim to it. Moreover, the fixation will confirm her instincts about hiring the loose cannon in the first place. She’ll want Cane to fire him. That’s where the trouble comes in.
We expect Ashby will resist the order, and argue that Lily can trust him to keep an eye on Billy and the situation. They’re going to butt heads. Lily will then discover that Cane has put her brother Holden in place to watch the wayward Abbott, and may not like that either. Yikes.
Will Cane be able to charm his way out of this one? Or will the newly reunited couple end up on the outs, both professionally and personally?
